Position Description:  School Psychologist

School Year:  2018/2019

 

Belle Creek Charter School, located in Henderson, is seeking a School Psychologist for the upcoming 2018/2019 school year.    

 

Reports To:  Executive Director

 

Summary:  Primary responsibilities of the School Psychologist is to coordinate and implement assessment and intervention techniques, consult with staff members, professionals and families as appropriate to assist in fostering a safe school environment, and address mental health and social issues that interfere with students’ academic success.  The following are examples of essential duties; however, any one position may not cover all duties listed and examples may not cover all duties the employee is expected to perform.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of the building level Problem-Solving Team (PST) to assist in synthesizing information in order to support the development of an appropriate intervention plan based on identified needs
  • Consult with school staff regarding the implementation of research-based interventions for students experiencing mental health and/or behavioral related concerns/issues as appropriate:
    1. May involve modification recommendations of the classroom environment, instructional styles or expectation levels for the student
    2. May involve serving as the liaison between the school, family and outside agencies regarding the students’ concerns
  • As appropriate, performs comprehensive educational relevant evaluations to identify students’ academic skills, learning aptitudes, personality and emotional development, adaptive behavior, and social skills
  • Facilitate and case-manage the process involved in completing an Initial Eligibility IEP, including staff and home-school communications, and ensuring compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and state laws
  • Provide short-term group or individual counseling services as necessary and in accordance with the building identified needs and/or a student’s IEP
    1. May involve developing and progress monitoring social-emotional and/or behavior IEP goals
  • Ensure that Functional Behavioral Assessments are completed with the support of designated team members in order to write/develop Behavior Intervention Plans, and help draft IEP goals related to behavior and social/emotional development
  • Participate in crisis intervention (threat/suicide assessments, safety plans, crisis intervention teams, building safety concerns etc.) and as necessary, provide resources to students and parents
  • Provide consultation to 504 teams at the request of the 504 District/Building Coordinator and/or Building Administrator
  • Follow district, department and school policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and/or guidelines, and the provisions of the contract as well as exercise professional judgment when acting in the absence of a covering guideline or policy

 

 

Education and Experience Required:

  • Must hold or have the ability to obtain a Colorado Special Services Provider License with an appropriate endorsement as a K-12 SchoolPsychologist
  • Master’s Degree in School Psychology or related field

 

Technical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and basic understanding of IDEA 2004, Exceptional Children’s Education Act (ECEA Colorado) 2007, and laws of Family and Child
  • Knowledge of current best practices in school-based prevention and early intervention strategies for students with mental health and/or social emotional needs
  • Requires the ability to prepare concise accurate reports integrating assessment data into reports, and may involve the ability to support the development of forms and training manuals
  • Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; to multiply and divide; utilize percentages; understand and apply the theories of algebra and geometry
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including computer terminology
  • Demonstrate skills in facilitation, conflict resolution and student and adult learning
  • Evidence of organization, planning and time management skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts associated with wheelchairs and/or other adapted equipment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

 

MENTAL FUNCTIONS The employee will be required to be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to compare, analyze, communicate, instruct, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, negotiate, and prioritize.  The employee is frequently required to copy, coordinate, compute, synthesize, and compile.
