Position Description:  Special Education Instructional Paraprofessional

School Year: 2018/2019 School Year

 

REPORTS TO:            Administrator of Special Education / Principal /Executive Director

 

COMPENSATION:     $12.50 - $15.39 per hour, based on experience

 

NATURE OF WORK:

To provide a well-organized, smooth functioning school environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. Paraprofessionals may be assigned to work in classrooms, office, media center or other areas.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
  2. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  3. Assists the teacher in all academic areas including special education classrooms while devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  4. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  5. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  6. Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  7. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
  8. Performs clerical duties assigned by the Administrator of Special Education, Case managers, or other staff members.
  9. Obtains gathers and organizes pertinent data, as needed, and puts it in a usable form.
  10. Assists with small and large group activities such as drill work, reading and storytelling.
  11. Supports students with Individual Education Plans by providing push in / pull out services while being monitored by a Special Education Case Manager, follows student Behavior Intervention Plans, provides and documents student use of accommodations.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have preferably completed two years of college or have an associate degree, or passed the paraprofessional assessment.
