Position Summary:

Seeking a talented individual who is energized by connecting students with their passion areas, designing dynamic learning experiences connecting student passions and learning to career opportunities, as well as anchoring student learning with project-based authentic experiences surrounding careers through the instruction of the Pathways Course (more information below). This will include several whole school events in addition to other content related projects.

 

Pathways Course Description:

Grades: 6 - 8 (Classes will contain only one grade level at a time).  Students will engage in project-based learning that explores various career opportunities, self-discovery, and consumer knowledge in an ever-changing world. The goal is for students to have a greater awareness of the opportunities they may pursue in high school and beyond while developing leadership skills. This course is one semester.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains discipline in classroom.
  • Takes responsibility for student achievement.
  • Evaluates, records, and reports student progress.
  • Assigns lessons and corrects homework.
  • Keeps attendance records.
  • Confers with students, parents, and school counselors to resolve behavioral and academic problems.
  • Uses audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
  • Prepares course outlines and objectives according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
  • Develops and administers assessments.
  • Performs advisory duties, such as sponsoring student organizations or clubs, helping students select courses, and counseling students with problems.
  • Instructs students, using various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Selects, stores, orders, issues, and inventories classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Develop lesson plans.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects;
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar;
  • Knowledge of arithmetic;
  • Knowledge of area of teaching and ability to communicate that knowledge;
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality; and interests; learning and motivation; different learning styles;
  • Knowledge of principles for Everyday Math and Daily Five preferred; and
  • Knowledge of Common Core Standards.

 

A qualified candidate is someone who:

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree and current Colorado 6 - 12 teaching license. Endorsements in the following areas are preferred, but not required: business, family and consumer sciences, technology education or marketing.
  • Has a passion for helping students connect learning to future experiences.
  • Has strong skills in Understanding By Design to aid in course development.
  • Has strong project management skills to support the coordination and execution of multiple learning experiences with all stakeholders.
  • Communicates in a proactive and positive manner with all stakeholders.
  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Builds a positive classroom community and culture containing structures to support student-centered collaborative learning, high expectations, and accountability.
  • Has strong skills with technology including Google apps/platform and online learning
  • Has familiarity with Chromebooks and ability to manage student use with a 1:1 technology program.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates those objectives to students.
  • Monitors student progress toward lesson objectives. Provides support to move students toward or beyond objectives.
  • Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guides students in learning from those activities.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Enforces all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic needs.
  • Fully participates in building directed professional learning, committees, and staff meetings, collaborates with colleagues and seeks continuous improvement.
  • Will be fully committed to the implementation of the Leader In Me Program and 7 Habits.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid secondary Colorado teaching license issued by the Colorado Department of Education.
  • Student teaching for at least one semester.
  • Classroom experience preferred.
