Position Description:  In-House Substitute Teacher

School Year:  2019 - 2020 School Year

Job Responsibilities:

• Maintains student learning in the classroom through building positive relationships with students and utilizing effective classroom management strategies.
• Follows substitute plans left by the classroom teacher.
• Instructs students, using various teaching methods.
• Takes responsibility for student achievement.
• Keeps attendance records.
• Administers State and building level assessments as needed.
• Participates in professional development as it applies, including training to administer State Assessments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of teaching effects;
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar;
• Knowledge of arithmetic;
• Knowledge of area of teaching and ability to communicate that knowledge;
• Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality; and interests; learning and motivation; different learning styles;
• Knowledge of principles for Envision Math and literacy centers preferred; and
• Knowledge of Common Core Standards.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Valid Colorado teaching license issued by the Colorado Department of Education or valid substitute license or teacher certification.
• At least one year of substitute teaching experience.
• Classroom experience preferred.
