  • High School Diploma
  • Library/media center knowledge preferred
  • Computer and typing skills preferred

JOB GOAL: This assistant to the media center specialist provides services integral to the overall use of the media center and is the welcoming face at the circulation desk. Efficient organization and the ability to performing multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail is critical. Additionally, flexibility and collaborative teamwork are important to success in this position. The ultimate goal of this job is to provide a well-organized, high functioning and attentive media center environment for students and staff so that they can take full advantage of the resources available.


  • Consistent and punctual attendance
  • Work under the direct supervision of the media center specialist
  • Assist the media center specialist in promoting appropriate conduct of students using the media center
  • Oversee circulation operations including: check outs/ins, overdue notices, and shelf maintenance
  • Shelve and file books and other materials
  • Assist in the annual inventory of media center materials
  • Assist students and teachers with information gathering and on-line resources
  • Work individually with students or in small groups as needed
  • Assist in processing books, ordering equipment, and keep inventory of supplies
  • Make repairs on damaged books
  • Create visually appealing bulletin boards and book displays
  • Train and supervise student library aides
  • Keep the general appearance of the media center and computer labs in good order
  • Assist students and staff with technology
  • Assist with monitoring standardized testing assessments
  • Collaborate with other support staff to organize events in the media center
  • Assist students with online programs and other digital resources
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on iPads/Chromebooks and computers
  • Perform clerical and secretarial work such as typing, alphabetizing, and filing
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Abilities in conducting research
  • Computer/typing skills
